I'll Get There

I sit here and try to write a tune, to tell you a tale you've never heard before
I write of fear, hope, and love, but soon again it fades before me
I won't say I don't have my doubts. No, this time I won't lie to you
I can't just sing a song or play my way out to the end of my own story

I feel adrift, and stagnancy seeping in
With the endings all ending, where do you begin?

I know I'm not where I want to be, but I'll get there
Yes, I know I'm not the man I need to be. I'll get there
It may take days, it may take years, it may be a lifetime ahead
But I'll get there

I leave my dishes in the sink and spend my nights afraid to be known
I don't have some magic like people think. I just have stories that I can't tell alone
It's the people passing in the streets, the people I love, and the people I don't
They write their lives into my skin till I can't help but read them

I feel their words sinking in
But I'm not ready, where do I begin?

I know I have some light I cannot yet see, but I'll get there
Yes I know, I have paths I cannot yet believe, but I'll get there
It may take luck, it may take loss, it may just pass me by

But I'll get there. Yes, I'll get there. Cause I'll get there

I know I'll be the man I need to be. I'll get there
And I hope I'll bring some light that this world needs
I'll get there. I'll get there
