Recollections

Postcards and coasters
Talk of wisdom and travels
Photographs turn vintage over time
Stray pages and scribbles
Are where it unravels
The chosen words they seldom rhyme

The typewriter, broken
Collects regret
Waiting for its saviour's arrival
In dusty cabinets
Lie tapes and cassettes
Longing for a miracle revival

So neatly locked away
And labelled: Yesterday
Is a myriad stash of recollections
Ghosts from my past
Trying to last
In a room filled with echoes
And reflections

A rusty tin box where letters go to hide
Is perched high on a crooked shelf
Lost emotions lie captive inside
Waiting
To reveal me to myself

Dog-eared novellas
And paperback fiction
Lean against old, tacky souvenirs
Foot-soldier figurines
Outside their jurisdiction
Exchange strategies and fears

Perhaps there, somewhere
In rustic armchairs
We're still engaged in conversation
We agree to disagree
On all things philosophy
Wrapped in lazy contemplation

So neatly locked away
And labelled: Yesterday
Is a myriad stash of recollections
Ghosts from my past
Trying to last
In a room filled with echoes
And reflections
