A House

Seems we're building a house
With words that fell like stones from our mouths
Which side of the door did we land
When our soft hands
Drew up these plans

How warm your eyes from the window
With my bags on my back
Standing below
How cruel it can feel when the breeze blows
And I'm tucked in this bed
In this head

Seems we're putting up walls
Built from time and tricks learnt in previous wars
How could we have been so terribly sure
We wouldn't lock ourselves in
Like we've both done before

How warm your eyes from the window
With my bags on my back
Standing below
How cruel it can feel when the breeze blows
And I'm tucked in this bed
In this head

How to move these
Bricks like bones
This skull a ceiling
A garden so green
In a picture book
A TV screen
Read to me about my feelings
I'll fall asleep and dream of leaving
When I wake will you believe me
Where's the key
And why do you need it
