Ill at Ease

Driving home along this windy road
I caught two people in my headlamp beam
And as I passed they both looked round at me
Like two faces in a terrible dream
They never saw me as I drove away
But I recognized her soft smiling eyes
And though I thought that time had healed our wound
That scene just took me by complete surprise

It's easy for you to laugh
Or to say I shouldn't care
But it was just the sight of her long brown hair on the breeze
Made me feel Ill at ease

I pulled over at the next motel
I thought I needed some sleep and a drink
I felt as windy as the road outside
I was tired and unable to think
Laying back upon my stranger's bed
I blamed myself for what might have bee
I cried long in that darkening night
As I remembered the face I had seen

I want to see her I don't want to see her
My mind is upside down
