All These Questions
Late one night, Henry rolled over
He looked at John and asked him
What does it mean to have all the attention
But not feel satisfied inside?
John couldn't find the words to say
So he shot another question back at him
What does it mean to follow your heart
And not feel broken down, broken down, broken?
All these questions
Taking up space
Taking up time
All these questions
Making it harder
Harder to recognize
The next day Henry sat on the bus
He stared out the window to pontificate
How meaningful is his own existence
If not shared with another life?
Back at home John was staring at his laptop
Dipping in and out of conscious thought
How much can he really learn to love another
If he cannot already love himself?
All these questions
Taking up space
Taking up time
All these questions
Making it harder
Harder to recognize
Where, where do you go
To find peace in your heart
Where, where do you go
To let yourself fall apart
Apart
All these questions
Taking up space
Taking up time
All these questions
Making it harder
Harder to recognize
Henry came home that evening to find
John had cooked and cleaned and made amends at home
As they sat down to eat, Henry spoke
Have we grown apart over all this time?
John looked up from his dinner plate
Grabbed Henry by the hand and shook his head
All we can do is learn to love ourselves
So we get the love, get the love
Get the love we deserve in return
He looked at John and asked him
What does it mean to have all the attention
But not feel satisfied inside?
John couldn't find the words to say
So he shot another question back at him
What does it mean to follow your heart
And not feel broken down, broken down, broken?
All these questions
Taking up space
Taking up time
All these questions
Making it harder
