Confession

Living out in the sticks alone
Has a certain appeal
But she knew that sense of real
Had lost the human touch

If she had looked on the top shelf
She might have found a hidden note
Tucked in a Bible thirty years before

It said "Cover me, relentlessly,
In mediocrity - extrasensory
And I'll cover you, if you cover me
I'll sing a song for you
Cause we're just passing through, anyhow
Anyhow"

Traveling through the sand and dirt
Swept away in a fight or flight
Takes a toll on the pilgrim's plight

Well some may find significance
In the stanzas of lost poem
Written from a wake at a funeral home

It said "Cover me, relentlessly,
Cause we're all scared you see of entropy
And I'll cover you, if you cover me
Cause I got eyes to see what's inside of you,
Anyhow -
Anyhow"

She sat there quiet on the front step
Captivated by an ounce of pain
Soaked to the bone in the summer rain

Reaching slowly for the good book
Looking for some sympathy
She found a confession there finally

It said "Cover me, relentlessly
Cause you and me ain't arbitrary
And I'll cover you, if you cover me
I'm an open book
We'll take a real good look, anyhow
Anyhow
