Those Days

Oh when I was younger I found comfort in the pines
And the hemlocks gave me shelter, offered shade and kept me dry
Oh the woods another world a castle tower a sailing ship
Where a boulder was a mountain and a pond an oceans width

Now they're cutting down the pines
Oh I'm losing my mind
Castle towers toppled over
Mountains brought back down to boulders
Those days are over

Oh when I was younger I ran beneath the leaves
And the maples tapped for sap, wood cut and split for heat
Oh we boiled down that sap where the sugar shack once stood
Oh I'd boil night and day, yes I'd go back if I could

Now the flues collect the leaves
Beneath a dying apple tree
Best to leave those days behind
Nothing left for you to find
You can't control time

Oh now I am older and still I cannot see
With closed eyes and a closed mind, guess I should plant the seed
Of moving on from days long gone let em blow by in the wind
Oh don't you let em haunt you or bother you again

Oh the years go by fast
Ain't no future ain't no past
Live for today and not tomorrow
Never falter time is borrowed
Find the path your born to follow

Don't be afraid of growing older
Stop looking over your shoulder
Those days are over
