That's Love to Me

As I strum this old guitar I find the pieces of my heart
Scattered all around this gloomy town called Franklin
And though I miss it from time to time, I hearken back to Wednesday nights
And sidewalk chalk that adds some color to the pavement
It was there that I had found myself, the missing book from the shelf
but the author was not inclined to mention
That the trees they used to print her works
The seed they've taken from the dirt
Was all I had left up there to lean on

Then I fell down... from the words that she wrote down on the pages
I passed out... from the weight that has encumbered me for months
Well... that's love to me

I woke up late that night, and read her lines from left to right
On this faded, ripped up, folded copy paper
I was frightened and I was shocked, and so I put in my pocket
Hoping someday maybe we'd read it together
A summer passed and our old school was bustling with all new faces
Going there to get an education
And although she was gone her voice still echo's down the hall
So I walked through the field and back to the pavilion

Where I cried out... for the slightest bit of her attention
I broke down... cause the time that I spent instigating change and it never came
Well... that's love to me

You suffered through the inquisition and times I opened up to you
I never claimed to be the victim but now I just look like the fool
For running towards a head on collision, but all my eyes can see are you
As I self destruct day by day

I fell down... from the words that she wrote down on the pages
I passed out... from the weight that has encumbered me for months
I cried out... for the slightest bit of her attention
I broke down... cause the time that I spent instigating change and it never came
Well... that's love to me
