Sailor

Once I was a sailor for a while
While I sailed around the world
I'd drink up every bottle I could find
And forget about it sure as hell though

The one thing that I wondered wherever I did roam
Was how I lost the love that I could never hold

Once I was a saint and I could
See right through each lonely torn up heart
I'd pick apart the particles that made it up
And turn the whole world dark as hell

But the one thing that I wondered wherever that I roamed
Was how I lost the love that I could never hold

How I lost, How I lost
The only thing I thought I got away with
Has slipped through my hands
I built my house on shifting sands

Once I was a soldier in the army and
I'd fight in every battle that I found
Until I ended up alive and well and buried in the ground (Oh hell)

But the one thing I have wondered...

I was anything at all I'd put my life beneath the wrecking ball
I'd fall in love and burn it down and that's the only sense I ever found in

How I lost, How I lost
The only thing I thought I got away with
Has slipped through my hands
I built my house on shifting sands
