Pinned up Butterfly

I had a dream I was back at your house
Going through all the pictures in the hallway
Searching for something to bring you back
And wishing I could have told you to stay
And in your things I found a pinned up butterfly
I wondered why it had to die
The bluest wings had started to decay
So I closed my eyes and pretended it flew away
In the back of your house there's a garden
Statues all covered in vines
I wondered how long they'd been abandoned
Did they ever cross your mind
And even the good ones go sometimes
If you'd come back I'd cut down all your vines
Why does it hurt after a year and a couple days
Would have done anything to make you stay
Some pottery, a butterfly, harmonica and a shelf
That still makes me cry
A ring that you got from your dad and these are all the things I have
Why did no one tell me it would hurt so bad
And in your things I found a pinned up butterfly
I wondered why it had to die
The bluest wings had started to decay
Sometimes I close my eyes and pretend you just flew away
