What's Left

I took a shower in the morning
Brushed my teeth
And washed my face
Just like they told me

And I took a shower in the evening
Brushed my teeth
Washed my face again
Did all the things I could think of to feel right

Now I'll take myself to the front door
Turn the knob and take a step
Walk around the neighborhood
All that's left—the pavement

And all the work it takes to come out
Through a day of thinking of you
I didn't mean to but I did
Though I did all I was supposed to do
Do

I even called my only friend
The one I didn't lose in all of it

I did all I was supposed to
Thought I did all I was supposed to
I've done all I can do
What's left but to think of you?
You
