Different People

We are all different people, to different people
He is a rock to someone, never sinking sand
First call in an emergency and bona-fide right hand man
Reliable would be his middle name if it wasn't already procrastination

Stern faced but soft spoken
His friends know he's the life of the party
Salone man lek enjoyment
So he's last from the party
He is a son to a mother who stayed up countless nights wondering his whereabouts
And brother to siblings who rely on him

He is a father to a little boy
Who exudes joy and bathes in the laughter he is named for
And partner to a woman he shares it all with

We are all different people to different people
But that is not a courtesy that extends to ourselves
And so sometimes the mirror only reflects mistakes
Perception is the master of opinion so you can't always see through the man in the Mirror

We are all different people to different people because we are often unwilling to give all Of ourselves to one person
Too afraid to find out if we can be accepted for everything we are that sometimes we Don't try at all
So instead we offer little pieces of our identity to different people hoping they accept the Parts we do have to offer
Scattering who we are in a ploy to be loved by a world who has barely accepted us

We are all different people to different people
And so sometimes we forget to be there for ourselves
Simply a poet
