From Brooklyn With Love

From the wrong side of the tracks
Right side of my borough
South to be exact
Flatbush to Marlboro
Spent some time in Bensonhurst
Gravesend where they raised me first
Also spent some time on Church
Both my grandmas stayed in church

Coney down to Ocean or from Caton up to Nostrand took the parkway to the ocean Feeling wavy
But I never surf
Midwood where I spent most days in class excluding k through third
Got good grades but never learned
Always speaking out of turn

Did it for the laughs, but now I laugh at how the tables turned
Speak my mind with no concern
Making sure my voice is heard
Now they play my records out in Cali down to Texas overseas and back to Bedford
Where my very first degree was earned

Also where I fell in love
Went through pain and hell in love
Learned that there's so much to gain
Until you lose yourself in love
But I'll never trade it
Though for some time I was jaded
Just until those feelings faded
I'm still grateful though those times were rough

Letting bridges burn is tough
Probably why I'm always meditating by the water
Cause the sound it soothes my soul in such
A way that I remember
Everything I've ever felt
The touch of sunshine on my face
And I relish every ray
I still cherish every day
