Shelf Life

My sad little shelf life hangs by a tether,
Leaves that were green now wilted and weathered
Isn't a kind way to say that I've seen better days

Eyes looking darker, face looking thinner
Tell them a joke everybody's a winner,
We both know that I'll be useless at dinner my dear.

So can we stay at home tonight?

Dressed to the nines but the feeling inside
Is we shouldn't be here and this place isn't kind,
So we run through the chambers looking for somewhere to hide

Birds are suspicious by change in the weather,
Frightened by marble and actors in leather,
Telling her darling, everything's going to be fine.

So can we stay at home tonight?

We can stay back inside while cheerleaders ride in the sun
Sit in pyjamas watch laughter escape from our lungs
Sing every song 'til there are no more songs to be sung
Tell me now when was the last time you felt this young?
