Orange Trees

Take me with you I cried to the boatman
The Black Water swallowed up my words
I stood shivering on the shoreline
Watching as they floated out
And soon his lamp was all that I could see
I fell to my knees on the Blue Stones
Savage howls came from deep inside my chest
I woke up in my bed
Screaming out of my head
And then a silence I felt deep inside my bones

Outside my window the crow calls at sunrise
At midnight the mockingbirds sing
My orange trees are buzzing with bees
It's a Southern California spring
Today I remembered to breathe
I remembered to walk in the sun
Looks like I've got some time
To fix what I left undone

It's time that I stopped looking for you
And maybe stopped looking so deep inside myself
Folks say to me, "This World ain't perfect
But it's the only one we've got"
You know, I'd have to be a fool to disagree

Outside my window the crow calls at sunrise
At midnight the mockingbirds sing
My orange trees are buzzing with bees
It's a Southern California spring
Today I remembered to breathe
I remembered to walk in the sun
Looks like I've got some time
To fix what I left undone
