Rumble Strips

Rumble strips save lives on a daily basis I give
Thanks to the people that put them there

See the oncoming traffic with vacant faces, they will
Live to fight another day, they can
Close their eyes without fear of disaster
From the road they will not stray

On the Garden State Parkway in 1952 did they realize how lucky they were?

In the early early morning after driving all night
I welcome the jarring intrusion
Long-haul truckers traveling overnight
They welcome the jarring intrusion

They can gather salt that's attractive to animals
We accept this added risk
When my mind starts to wander those strips are my sentinel
My universal warning when my car starts to drift

I can trust them implicitly to get me where I'm going
I can trust them implicitly to get me back
