Old Manners

My old friend appeared long ago
We shared bright colors and overnight walks in the park
We used to drink, smoke and fall apart
As if all of the pieces would just fall back into place on their own
But all these chapters come to an end
You get heavier and heavier with the weight of the days passing by
When all is said when every word seems tired
When nothing comes to mind but the grind and the need for an easy way out
As far as I can remember we were just hanging around and waiting for a sign
A nod of approval a flash of reason
To justify the bits of glass we break when we need to make some room
Only in a quiet place will the story come into focus and reveal itself
Pieces of memory brought together scene after scene
And you wonder if you'll go down with your pride and your heart
