Do people actually listen to lyrics'

As a writer, I know that you care about lyrics and your songs and song lyrics
But you have said to me, you don't think people listen to lyrics
Do you really think that?

I think the prevailing theory, which is that it'll go by 20 times before people
You know, like, they'll get into the, the repeated part, like the title or whatever
You know? And then, like 20 plays in, start to get into the lyrics
But I don't think first time it bat anybody, myself included, catches the lyrics

Like, I gotta like the song first, and then if I like the song
I'll get into whatever part I got into, and then after that
I'll finally get to the lyric part of it
You know, it's like, first time around, it's hard
Somebody I like, like Rikki Lee Jones
Like, I really, I love that digitally recorded album she did

It's not a full album, it's like, four fifths of an album, whatever it is
And, uh, I love, I love the way she handles lyrics
Like her, I can, I can hear a lot of it first time
But I know I missed some of it on the first album, even to this day
Like, I listen to it and I say, "Oh", you know? So

I'm the way other people are
No, I don't catch it the first time around
When the very-
Or the second, third, fourth, or fifth, probably
