The World We Deserve

No hope, not an end in sight
Of this recurring nightmare come to life
Holding out for something more
Something that we've never seen before

The power they abused
The promises they broke
The systematic silencing of
Unflattering news
Is this a fucking joke?
We've heard it all before

With every fleeting cycle of dissent
All the empty slogans that came and went
Could never undo what we've seen
This dark and twisted American dream

And so it seems
We were never meant for better things
The city on hill
Never came to be and never will
This culture of hate
Is quietly sealing our fate
This paradise
Is burning down right before our eyes

My allegiance
Is to nothing more than this
That the only answer
Is to actively resist
This institution
And the special interest that it serves
And until we get there
We get the world that we deserve

And so it seems
We were never meant for better things
The city on hill
Never came to be and never will
This culture of hate
Is quietly sealing our fate
This paradise
Is burning down right before our eyes
