Fair to Middlin'

I caught the rain growing grass again
Standing in the yard while it was blowing in the wind
I grew up on dirt, dry, cracked skin
But I guess, now, you could say I'm fair to middlin'

Out in the field, when the storm rolled in
I stood out proud, just taking it in
As the trees flipped out and started to bend
I was back where I came from again

Out in the dust with no water for miles
I ran shade to shade until night closed in
As the night shivered cold and the moon settled in
I was back where I came from again

I caught the sun beating down again
Burning up the grass that the rain brought in
I grew up on cistern water and kool-aid grins
But I guess, now, you could say I'm fair to middlin'
