Realign

If our hearts can send lines of consciousness
To every limb telling it to be still
Or act on an impulse
How do we maintain integrity in our lives?
Keep me free from toxic ways.

I can trace the lines to that place in time
When you redefined what was yours and mine
And what it meant to realign.
You be sure to keep your distance,
Make space enough to leave me out.
I'll try hard to keep my head out of the clouds.

Falling from these heights,
Grabbing every branch on the way down.
Can't expect the light hiding in the shade of heavy limbs.
Living in the dark, so egocentric.
Keep me free from toxic ways.

I can trace the lines to that place in time
When you redefined what was yours and mine
And what it meant to realign.
You be sure to keep your distance
Make space enough to leave me out.
I'll try hard to keep my head out of the clouds.

When the lines degrade do our bodies curve to match?
A crooked back for a crooked heart.
Shallow breaths to break apart.
Overreactive with no passion.
Just branches on a tree.

Might as well be dead and diseased.
Corrupted, not free.
I prefer a cage, bars to mold my growth to their shape.
Keep me free from my toxic ways.

I can trace the lines to that place in time
When you redefined what was yours and mine
And what it meant to realign.
You be sure to keep your distance,
Make space enough to leave me out.
I'll try hard to keep my head out of the clouds.

Might as well be dead and diseased.
Corrupted, not free.
