Tropicaliptico

On the 22nd floor
Right next to the bathroom door
Lies a speck of green
A plant of unknown origins for him
Kitchen stall is sparkling clean
Read the news, coffee machine
Yet no questions as to how his new gift came to be
Someone from work maybe
And for the first time it brought him to his knees

Takes a look down to the pool
The favelas, public schools
In the distance, toothpicks jut up all defiantly alone
Well at least it is a home
Good paychecks, lemongrass foam
And a thirst for something
Like his plant keeps thirsty for some love
Water away
And now that's how he'd want to spend his days

First the phones, their batteries dried
Unanswered calls, his parents worried sick
Crying messages, unheard
Then the plant grew salient vines
It cracked the walls, let in sunlight
And that's how he lost his front door

They found him growling like an animal
Like an animal
Found him screaming "I'm in love"
They found him mauling through apartment walls
Apartment walls
Found him screaming "I'm in love"

They said that he was a man of reason
With many things to hide
They said that he was a man of reason
With many thorns inside
