The Long Way

Some people have so much to brag about
That it never crossed their mind
But me, I am so filled up in getting there
That all I feel is fine
When I look at the passengers beside
I'll never wonder who's inside
I only just now learned direction
But I've been traveling most my life

Once again, I have returned to who I was as a child
I knew my mother knew the way
And all I had to do was smile
And I never second-guessed I knew a shortcut for miles
I would rather take the long way
Being sure that I would get there someday

Some people have so much to be sad about
But it doesn't cross their mind
Me, I'm just hopeful enough
To think I haven't passed my prime
But of all the things life taught me
Here's a lesson I must find
Either find you're in the journey
Or spend your whole life killing time

So once again, I have returned to who I was as a child
I knew my mother knew the way
And all I had to do was smile
And I never second-guessed I knew a shortcut for miles
I would rather take the long way
Being sure that I would get there someday
