Leaving the Ring

Boxing gloves on
Confidence gone
It's time for a fight
A jab then a cross
Always at a loss
When it's me versus I

Though the outcome is futile
The blows can be brutal
Someone's gotta take the fall
I'll take it like I take them all

Sweat and tears are rolling down my chin
And I'm not even looking for a win
After too many fouls time to throw in the towel
No need to ration my own self-compassion
No more self-inflicted sting
I'm leaving the ring

Pressure starts to mount
I'm down for the count
What a tragic plight
I reminisce
Who told me this, would make things feel right

No more knock downs or bruising
No more blame or accusing
I was never made of steel
I'm taking time to let me heal

Sweat and tears are rolling down my chin
And I'm not even looking for a win
After too many fouls time to throw in the towel
No need to ration my own self-compassion
No more self-inflicted sting
I'm leaving the ring

I'm leaving the ring
I'm leaving the ring
