Sugarcoat

I'm too empathetic for my own good
I feel sorry for you don't think that I should
So last night I wrote a love letter to my past
And told her it was okay to feel angry like that
I don't have it in me to hate you
So I'll settle for hating everything you do
A kind heart can only go so far, lies backed
With good intent aren't gonna lower the bar

I know you're only human and I'm sorry about that
But the rest of us are human too yet we don't act like that

I've been trying to word this poetically
But there's no way to sugarcoat what you did to me
You're just as selfish as I'd hoped you wouldn't turn out to be
And you took advantage and blamed it on your instability
So don't, don't, don't sugarcoat this baby

I bit the bullet one too many times
Just to watch you victimize your dry eyes
At times I wonder, was it my fault?
Then I remember narcissistic is your default
I've lost friends and sleep due to your story
Claiming I'm turning fiction into history
And maybe deep down you're really not that bad
But you took a piece of me I can't get back
So I'm gonna stay mad

I know you're only human and I'm sorry about that
But the rest of us are human too yet we don't act like that

I've been trying to word this poetically
But there's no way to sugarcoat what you did to me
You're just as selfish as I hoped you wouldn't turn out to be
And you took advantage and blamed it on your instability
So don't, don't, don't sugarcoat this baby

I know you're only human and I'm sorry about that
But the rest of us are human too yet we don't act like that

I've been trying to word this poetically
but there's no way to sugarcoat what you did to me
You're just as selfish as I'd hoped you wouldn't turn out to be
And you took advantage and blamed it on your instability
So don't, don't, don't sugarcoat this baby

So, don't, don't, don't sugarcoat this baby
