Shore Bird

This land is made of reason a million years and all four seasons
Sometimes it hurts but mostly pleasin unburdened by the sea
The preacher wails the sinner's sinning on water ground can't tell who's winning
The fire light fades slow to dimming and now is lost to me

Oh give a dram to the longshoreman curry favor from the widows fair
But in some heart broke moment take care

The boys are born the Atlantic cold passage and often frantic
In heavy storms they shall not panic then there's the swells they fail to know
But girls like the south Pacific calmer times ain't love terrific
Fill in the blanks be more specific but keep ye well the undertow

Oh give a dram to the longshoreman curry favor from the widows fair
But in some heart broke moment take care

We prairie boys and midwest girls what do we know of water worlds
The plow shares break the ground will curl unburdened by the sea
Sleep well tonight if you must love him God give us ground to stand beside him
So we may hold one to the other like a shore bird to the sea
