Songbird

A heart of gold, a song so pure
He heard in awe the overture
Gave it wind and gave it sky
To spread it's wings and fly

Bought a cage to tell a tale
What could have been oh nightingale
From iron bars to pearly gates
A promise-land awaits

As she fell there came a cry
Softly turning in to stone
'Thank you God for all I've learned'

A symphony they wrote as one
His pen the earth, it's voice the sun
A season change, a longer night
His world it couldn't light

Spring would come the bird believed
What once was bare would grow new leaves
From darkness comes a lesson learned
To him it would return

As she fell there came a cry
Softly turning in to stone
'Thank you God for all I've learned'

And so to his window it flew
Ready to sing a movement new
Instead of care his hands were cold
Instead a truth untold

He pointed to the open air
'It's time to take your song up there'
Unsure but ever eager to please
The bird found the breeze

But before it was out of sight
He called up in to the clear night
"Look my love, the stars aligned!
Seek the truth and ye shall find"

And as she fell there came his sigh
'As above, it is below
Thank you God for all I've learned'
