Waxahatchee

I take the bus to Waxahatchee, endure a three-hour trip
I want to smell the salt in the air to give my life a kick
I contemplate the decades past on an asphalt strip
Movement's my only escape from the clockin' of the tick

Time is earned, time is spent
I'm just tryin' to keep up with what's current
Time is earned and time is spend
I'm learnin' to float along with the endless current

On the bus to Waxahatchee, one with too many kids
Up and down the aisle they run, blazin' right past where I sit
These little ones can't see beyond their exuberance
They don't notice as each moment is just as soon spent

Time earned is time spent
I'm just tryin' to keep up with what's current
I know that time is earned and sure gets spent
Yeah, I'm just now learnin' to float along on this endless current

Stepped of the bus in Waxahatchee, onto the golden sand
Rolling waves lap the shoreline and I no longer pretend
To store the currency of life in some eternal bank
Movement's the only way I feel the full force of the wait

Time is earned, time is spent
