Moon

We have been on this moon before
When our stars once lost their way
On the barren and lifeless floor
Where eclipses might melt into day

And the comets froze us to our core
While our orbits sank into the void
Where light could no longer escape
And time could contain us no more

Our atoms learned dancing
Our electrons entwined
And the force of our orbit
Gave music its time

But the dance became clumsy
And our nucleus sheared
Pouring dark in the cosmos
We once had revered

We screamed at the sky
Clouds drenched with our tears
Nothing left in our souls
But obsidian fears

And you ran to a bridge
Where so many lost light
My lungs bloodied from searching
Silhouettes in the night

A half bottle of poison
Embracing your veins
I carried your carcass
While you writhed in your pain

Where we used to sing songs
And we ached with each verse
Now the emptiest measures
We forgot to rehearse

But we've been on this moon before
Where we harvested poems of light
And the couplets that coupled our stars
Rewrote gravity so we could take flight

And the comets turned us into dust
Carving rings that will glow and spin true
And you cast off the shell that I trust
But I'll search through the cosmos for you

And this moon is all that we adored
Our aphelion comes into view
As our satellite loses its core
I'll soar through the timeline of you

My love, I will always find you
My love, I will always find you
