Cheap Old House

I don't have very lofty aspirations
Not trying to be the voice of my generation
Not looking for notoriety
The quiet life's alright by me
Just a modest man trying to improve my station

I think I can get there if I work hard
And I'm fortunate to have a bit of a head start
A cheap old house would be enough
I just need to keep it up
My pace is good but the journey is still far

I just want a cheap old house
That I bought with songs I wrote myself
It could be up north or it could be down south
I could be on my own or with someone else

I just want a cheap old house
And to renovate I might need some help
So I can tell myself when I'm full of doubt
That my songs bought this house

I'm not trying to pad some stranger's wallet
I'd rather acquire assets or whatever you call it
I don't really care about money
Don't know much about the economy
But I don't want to pay rent I'd rather pay monthly instalments
