Time Machine

My momma gave me my first car when I was sixteen
I still got it, man, I couldn't ever part with that thing
It might look like it's just an old car to you.
But I can tell you now, there's a lot more it can do
It use to take me and my buddies for a ride
Now, when I'm missing them, I just get in
And it takes me back in time

And I seem 'em all sitin' there in the seats
Laughing out loud, looking at me, if I listen close
I here their voices, singing through my engine noise
Way too loud, a little off key
But to here it now it sounds good to me
I didn't know it back then but it seems,
We were ridin' around with the windows down
The base too loud in a real life time machine

That car tried its best to make me look cool
In front of the girl I loved in high school
I got my fist kiss parked in it by the football field
I still feel her lips on mine anytime I touch the wheel
It took our buts to prom on senior year
I still see her finishin' her makeup
Over in that pull down mirror

And I see her sittin' there in the passenger seat
Her pretty eyes lookin' back at me, if I listen close
I hear her voice singin' through my engine noise
A little too loud to Bobby McGee
I can hear her now, harmonizing with me

I didn't know it back then, but it seems,
We were ridin' around with the windows down,
The base too loud in a real life time machine

Well we grew up and we moved on with our lives
But it's still nice to go back in time when I take a drive
And I see 'em all sittin' there in the seats,
Laughing out loud, lookin' at me, if I listen close
I here there voices singin' through my engine noise
Way too loud, a little off key, but to hear it now
It sounds pretty damn sweet
I didn't know it back then, but it seems
We were ridin' around with the windows down
The base too loud
In this thing mama gave me
I never dreamed, that it ever be, a time machine

A time machine
