Tomorrow
I walk up to my school with a gun in my backpack
I look at the smiling faces and started heading back
If I'm taking anyone's life I'll be taking my own
So I pack my bags and run away from my home
I hop on a train that was heading out west
And I close my eyes to try and catch some rest
Spraying graffiti on the side of boxcars
In the dead of night staring up at the stars
Even when life is nothing but sorrow
I'm holding out for a better tomorrow
Looks like I'm sticking around for a while
Just to try and make a few people smile
Counting the day to my demise
Staring up at the cloudy rainy skies
What's that thing that people say
Tomorrow is another day
I slump down in a dark and rainy alleyway
In a city that's thousands of miles away
I saw a junkie that had just run out of hope
Belt around his arm and he's cronked out on the dope
A quarter down the dragon and I hear a kid scream
There's a guy in a van and he's doing what it seems
So I grab the junkies needle and stab him in the eye
Then bail when the cops come to help the kid and arrest the guy
Even when life is nothing but sorrow
I'm holding out for a better tomorrow
Looks like I'm sticking around for a while
Just to try and make a few people smile
Counting the day to my demise
Staring up at the cloudy rainy skies
What's that thing that people say
Tomorrow is another day
Down by the boardwalk up by the pier
The cop said "hey ya can't be squatting here"
I said "screw you pig I hope you die"
And he left me with a crack in my skull staring up at the sky
I made my final wish for peace on the globe
Then I saw the mother of the kid from all those months ago
They said I might not make it on the way to the hospital
I choke up some blood and laugh "I guess we'll never know"
Even when life is nothing but sorrow
I'm holding out for a better tomorrow
Looks like I'm sticking around for a while
Just to try and make a few people smile
Counting the day to my demise
Staring up at the cloudy rainy skies
What's that thing that people say
Tomorrow is another day
I wake up bloody in the hospital bed
With a throbbing pain shooting thru-out my head
Across the room I see a little girl hooked up on chemo
So I stagger out of bed and walk up to the piano
As Ii tap away some patients gather around
They seem to find some joy in my own sound
I made myself a promise after seeing the smile of the girl
If it's the last thing I'll do I bring some good on this world
Even when life is nothing but sorrow
I'm holding out for a better tomorrow
Looks like I'm sticking around for a while
Just to try and make a few people smile
Counting the day to my demise
Staring up at the cloudy rainy skies
What's that thing that people say
Tomorrow is another day
I got some cash playing piano in the mall
Soon enough I was playing concert halls
But I knew what to do with the insight in my head
I went back to the alley found the junkie and got him fed
I looked at him and said I have a place he could stay
But he's gotta put down the drugs cuz there is a better way
I showed him the world of music and how to make cool sounds
He joined up in a band and turned his life around
Even when life is nothing but sorrow
I'm holding out for a better tomorrow
Looks like I'm sticking around for a while
Just to try and make a few people smile
Counting the day to my demise
Staring up at the cloudy rainy skies
What's that thing that people say
Tomorrow is another day
I walk to a park bench with fulfillment in my heart
Cocked my head back and started staring at the stars
If you can't live for yourself at least help some others out
Cuz nothing good comes from dying in a shoot out
And even after all of these years
The joy the good the pain the tears
One thing remains among over all the memories
And it's that life is a big beautiful mystery
Even when life is nothing but sorrow
I'm holding out for a better tomorrow
Looks like I'm sticking around for a while
Just to try and make a few people smile
Counting the day to my demise
Staring up at the cloudy rainy skies
