Idle Hand

Summer's coming up again
Sooner is its warning, spring
A blue jay cries beside me
Feathers floating off his wing
He's dangling my keys like the crow from Bon Iver
And takes off until we meet again
Above the humid air

The angles of my joints as they rap against my ribs
Fabric squeezing ever tighter my flesh and blood and skin
As my mind wholly resides in a constant state of fear
I fight deflation of my lungs and force a smile ear to ear

This is my idle hand
Cracked and calloused

If the earth resumes its spin
Breathes out its long inhale
And hollow bodies of the sickly
Are no longer gaunt and frail
If coastal towns have sunk beneath the eerie, stagnant moon
If every movie that I watch feels like old childhood cartoons
The way that I exist will still elude the force of man
And the river will roar loudly
Unsecured behind the dam

This is my idle hand
Cracked and calloused
This is my idle hand
Cracked and calloused
