I Wouldn't Know

Everywhere I look, it seems
People realize love's dreams
And it makes me glad, I wish them well

But all that ever comes to me
Is this sad futility
With no end in sight that I can tell

Where did I fail?
Can I still get in on the... sweet fairy tale?

Happy lovers, breathing sighs
Gaze into each other's eyes
Moonlight walks, champagne on ice
Pillow talks, it must be nice
To know you're loved wherever you might go
But I wouldn't know

Is it wrong to dream of things?
Questioning the scheme of things?
Can someone tell me why this needs to be?

I don't ask for all that much
Love and tenderness and such
And a heart that only beats for me

Someone to help forget the past and only see what's new
Someone who understands me like you do
Well, I'll let you go
Thanks so much for listening to my tale of woe

Dearest friend, you've been so kind
I wonder if it's crossed your mind
That you might be the one I seek
To be my strength when I am weak
And if you're wondering too, please tell me so
Or I'll never know
