'This Age' By Maureen Onwunali

This age
Looks a lot like
Coffee with a spoonful of Nutella
It is heartbreaks and heartaches and cod liver oil for my heart's sake
Looks like jealous teddy bears being pushed off of the bed
It is starbursts and seduction
It is baileys and hot chocolate
It's being drunk off of memories
And polaroid smiles
This age Looks like young nights and moving fast
And slow walking with aging parents who are no longer moving fast
It is red bull and razor blades
Rebounds and rollerskates
Trading in trainers for heels
It is forgotten math equations and nights to remember
It is insomnia and ice cream
Sleepless nights where I try dream
It is preferring chewable tablets
While avoiding white lines of crushed up fairy dust
It is happily ever sometimes
And diluted ambitions
This is what being a hybrid feels like Grown but not quite
Still naive but not quiet
Young and dumb
And young
And that, that is okay
