Somebody Else's Fight

Another warrior convinces himself
That he fights from his soul
But in his heart he feels that
He's just following orders
From those in control

And as the sun slides across the sky
another warrior dies
In somebody else's fight

Having an axe to grind
A few men in authority trigger a war
When the fighters are mobilized
They find a safe place
And observe from afar
And all these men who procured the fight
Barely will bat an eye
Watching the soldiers die

Well they say "knock and the door will be opened to you"
So I'll find where my real fight is at
And do all that I have to do
And even if their motives are pure
And they'd risk their own lives
'Cause they truly believe with all their heart they're right
It's still not my fight

The battle lines are drawn
The sun is up and it shines on the field
The time for peace is gone
A man's brought to his end by the powers that be

But he wonders if he's just as much to blame
For making himself a slave
And letting them choose his fate
And as this thought rises through his mind
He shuts his eyes and dies
In somebody else's fight
