Upside Town

I was in a type-A tidy-up mood the other day
In a getter-done mindset throwing all the nonessentials away
I'm an exterminator in my eyes
Purifying things I like
Taking time to appreciate the goodness in the grime
But I failed to aright it all inside

I was in a type-A purging-things mood the other night
I went into my mind attempting to find
All the things that I'd hide, I'd find
The root to all my pain
The link to my misdeeds
And the creature hidden deeper that controls the wrongs I think

And I would string it up, yeah
And I would string it up, yeah

Why is everybody else upside down
I swore I'd hang the thing that's caused my pain but somehow
I'm the one who landed outside the border of Upside Town
And now it looks like I'm the one who's upside down

My feet are bound
Now it looks like there's something I need to figure out
I'm the root to all of my problems
You'd miss the point if I just wrapped it all up with "I'll resolve 'em"

See most times it's the conclusion that I tend to avoid
But I must make room for a void
So that I can fill it with a prudence
See I've known I'm the solution
I just tend to be coy
With my put-off-owning-up ploy
My humility's never been used less

Upside Town is such a pleasant place, undeniably
A place that everybody wants to see but never be
'Cause the second that we enter we're reminded that we're fallible
It's palpable but paramount to avoid the prerogative
Parallel that we become a parable, a fairytale
To warn the youth to not repeat our nominal ego
Oh no, I did an oxymoron, flow is out the window
I've reflected, now the truth is out
I've tasted crow now get me down

I put it all out, I've never been prouder to not be proud
Making headway, it's been a long day, but I gained Upside Town
I think it's high-time for a victory round
I grabbed the flame I tamed that gave me strength but mostly pain
And you already know what I did with that thing, man
I took it and

I just strung it up, yeah
I just strung it up
Wait

Why is everybody else upside down
I swore I'd hang the thing that's caused my pain but somehow
I'm the one who landed outside the border of Upside Town
And now it looks like I'm the one who's upside down
Now it looks like I'm the one who's upside down

I found out
That this town turns out to be just big enough for three
That accounts for my identity, the unholy trinity
The guy I want to be is the favorite of the three
The one I never want to see's the least cared-for side of me

And then there's me, the guy who can't quite get things right and yet I try my best
And the last time I checked, if anyone does that and nothing less
They've done all that they can, so when I'm guilt-ridden again
I am reminded that my pride does not decline my citizenship
It's a burden that I leave at the threshold my friend
And I will carry it the best I can right up until the end, so
I won't stop stringing me up until accountability has passed
And I won't discouraged when again I want to ask

Why is everybody else upside down
I swore I'd hang the thing that's caused my pain but somehow
I'm the one who landed outside the border of Upside Town
And now it looks like I'm the one who's upside down

(Why is every, why is every, upside down, I
Why is every, why is every, body else upside down)

The one who landed outside the border of Upside Town
And now it looks like I'm the one who's upside down
Now it looks like I'm the one who's upside down
Now I see the benefit of upside down
