2020 Was A Year
You know
Growing up you hear all these different old, wise sayings
One that stuck with me for the longest was
"Hindsight's always 2020"
It's been a hell of a year for all of us
I just wanted to talk about what I saw from... my perspective
Through my eyes
Here we go
Yeah
Look
2020 Started off like it was mine
Heard about Corona but I never drink thought I was fine
2020 Was the year that I would say it was my time
Then Kobe passed in January and I damn near lost my mind
For a minute
Had me shaken up, I swear I couldn't speak
Next time I touched a ball
I collapsed and started to weep
I was broken, I felt incomplete, but then began to think
That he would tell me that these times ain't for the weak
So it took me boutta couple for me to go and be strong
Picked myself back up to keep running this marathon
Nipsey told me it continues
Don't matter what you been through, just keep goin
So I did that and tried to follow the omens
That I spoke into existence
Was close to all I wanted then the world froze
And so I had to keep my distance
(So I had to keep my distance)
Saw news about the violence and bout how the world goes
And I swear I got pushed past my limit
We saw how Floyd was murdered and it brought the world to its knees
I was scared to get ice, it's more likely I'd have to freeze
I was moving to the city where Breonna was murdered, we yelling PLEASE
Give us justice but it's hard when police police the police
And we know that
So we helped a movement go places
So now we can't go back
The mask ain't for emotions we still have them so we show that
We let it all out, ain't time to hold back
It's a bigger picture can't have tunnel vision
Use that Kodak
Yeah
So time passed and the seasons changed
Was training daily for my moment, mental was rearranged
Was married to the game
I never thought this was the time we would be estranged
9th inning 2020 threw another curve at me know it seems insane
But I went through it for a couple stretches
Used the pen because the sword I would fight with had double edges
So I wrote about a dozen songs
Then I dropped an album too
Body's broken so I built my mind and raised my altitude
And now it's through there's still a lot that I don't know
Since it's passed I got more questions than before
So I use this time to speak
I thank anyone who listens
See lately I've been reminiscing
And I've been thinking that
If 2020's anything we know it was sincere
2020 showed me more than what I thought I even feared
2020's something strange, but I know that something's clear
2020 Was a time, 2020 was a motherfuckin' year (Yeah)
Said 2020 was a year
2020 Was a time 2020 was a motherfuckin' year
We made it through, I'm blessed to say we're here
But it's safe to say that, we done had a year
2020 Was a... year, yeah
