So Said Sun Tzu

As I wandered in a daydream through the foothills of my mind
Refighting old battles and the life I'd left behind
An ancient scrap of memory unlocked a hidden door
Inside Sun Tzu was lecturing upon the art of war

Sometimes a draw can feel like losing
So only fight the battle at a time of your own choosing
Said Sun Tzu and Sun Tzu knew

All the birds are singing brightly and the sun is shining loud
In the gardens of remembrance are never any clouds
Advancing not for glory you retreat without disgrace
Let quickness be your essence let secrets save your face

Sometimes defeat can feel like winning
Face down in the mud but you find yourself grinning
Accept no omens no superstitions
Swoop like a falcon on your decisions
And see them through so said Sun Tzu

Let honour be your watchword and the eagle be your eye
As the cheetah is your footstep and the elephant your mind
Speak kindly to people and tread lightly on the land
Don't take up arms against a man who cannot understand

The art of war if anything
Is to make the other side believe that they can't win
Your will so strong your case so right
Chances are they'll give up without a fight
And if they do credit Sun Tzu
He thought it through
He knew exactly what to do

So said Sun Tsu
So Sun Tsu said
Keep a head full of heed and a handful of dread
Be so subtle as to be formless
Mysterious to the point of soundlessness
So said Sun Tsu
