Butterflies

Can you hear it now? Put your ear down to the floor
Close your mouth and listen, it's gotten much louder than before
Then it sinks below the surface
But it keeps ringing out, demanding your regard
Should you pay attention, or ignore it more, let it boil off, overflow
You know I think I failed to mention
I'm kind of frightened how, easy it takes command
Swim against the current, your flaccid arms flapping in the quicksand

When it gets too real, I try to pass it off
So it doesn't make me feel, like a broken husk
Eroding to dust, oh
Eroding to dust, one stiff breeze will blow it all away and leave you a shell

So we've watched it grow, took shape and conformed
Feeding on the echoes, of despair, becomes the norm
Then it burrows out a hole
Digs itself inside, waiting to implode
Use nostalgic discourse, to try and tone it down, soothe it till it calms

When it gets too real, I try to pass it off
So it doesn't make me feel, like a broken husk
Eroding to dust, oh
Eroding to dust, one stiff breeze will blow it all away and leave you a shell
