Friendships

When we were kids, we said friends to the end
Nothing was sacred and all rules could bend
We didn't care what life was about
We were two good buddies just hanging out

Getting around, we'd ride or run
If one bike broke down, we'd double up
We'd follow railroad tracks to the bridge
Then we'd chicken out and slide down the ridge

Friendships are great; they come naturally
But we soon learn they aren't free
They are so fragile and precious as jewels
If we take them for granted, we're fools

When we got older, we drifted apart
You pursued business, I went into art
Two guys in separate worlds, we kept in touch
Still hung together, just not quite as much

Friendships are great; they come naturally
But we soon learn they aren't free
They are so subtle and precious as jewels
If we take them for granted, we're fools

Now we've grown old and talk a lot
Trying to recall memories we forgot
Those rules that we had as kids still apply
This bond remains close between you and I

Friendships are great; they come naturally
But we soon learn they aren't free
They are so tricky and precious as jewels
If we take them for granted, we're fools
If we take them for granted, we're fools
