I'm Jaded

The older I become, I realize I don't know anything
My neighbor always smiles; Early spring, he's swinging on a swing
I thought, 'How long 'till he gets me in the dark and hits me on the head with a bar?'
But shame on me for taking my thoughts to such a degree
So tell me, how can one man be so free?
Beats me
I often think I've broken through (Do you?)
But every time I do it's hard to breathe
Oh me!
Maybe I should give myself a break and break bread with my neighbor
Maybe I should ask him for his name
"I'm Ed, and you're my savior"
Maybe he will take me to his yard
He'll light a fire while I play guitar
But something sharp is sticking from his sleeve... this is it for me

How long 'till he takes me in the dark and smashes in my head with a bar?
But shame on me for taking my thoughts to such a degree
So tell me, how can one man be so free?
