Nothin's Too Good For Us

Every summer when I was just a kid I got to fish with Uncle Jay
In that beat up truck an old boat in tow he'd be talkin the whole way
Sharing stories about growin up in a little California town
Didn't have much, but he didn't let nothing get him down
He said no matter what hand I get dealt
There's one thing I've learned through the years
Life's about the attitude that you give back
Even when you're fightin' through the tears

He'd say, Nothin's too good for us, we're small town royalty
To do life right, keep that in mind and maintain your honesty
Nothin's too good for us, we deserve nothing but the best
Just keep it simple, walk the line, and let God do the rest

Back home on his little ranch He would wake to the rooster's crow
He'd bust his knuckles all day tryin to make that ole' Massey go
He was fightin to make ends meet and live by God's word
But when Uncle Jay started talkin all those problems disappeared
He said no matter what hand I get dealt, there's one thing I've learned through the years
Life's about the attitude that you give back even when you're fightin' through the tears

He'd say, Nothin's too good for us, we're small town royalty
To do life right, keep that in mind and maintain your honesty
Nothin's too good for us, we deserve nothing but the best
Just keep it simple, walk the line, and let God do the rest

So many years have gone by since my time with Uncle Jay
He lived each day to fullest as the cancer took him away
But those words of wisdom live on in me to this very day
Now those kids of mine just smile, when they hear me say,

I say, Nothin's too good for us, we're small town royalty
To do life right, keep that in mind and maintain your honesty
Nothin's too good for us, we deserve nothing but the best
Just keep it simple, walk the line, and let God do the rest
