The Forge

The deepest parts of me were hammered in the forge
Melted my heart through life's great flame
And I screamed and I cried, "Oh why is there pain?"
Yet my soul is turned to gold, tested and trained

'Cause nothing makes sense without Love's fire
Life's pounding falls on my stained steel soul
And without the flame, I am not softened
To be shaped by the blow

The undulating circle of time can seem cruel
The heat melts me down as my shape loosens
Before the hammer falls again to bend but not break me
Then cooled by the waters my changes are hardened

'Cause nothing makes sense without Love's fire
Life's pounding falls on my stained steel soul
And without the flame, I am not softened
To be shaped by the blow
