There's a corn jar filled with box tops and nothings on the table
With a runaway father who couldn't feed his daughters
The lack of a mother who works her fingers to the bone
Those girls run around just looking for trouble

They got a birthday cake lit up for two today
Two breaths in their lungs and one wish on the plate
And that's to see their father of whom they can not remember
But that ain't gonna happen today

They ain't been to school in two years or more
Got a job doin dances at some dingy old club
Mother fell ill and they needed more money
So when they'd get offa work they'd put on a short skirt and stand on the corner

But that man was found lying down dead in the dirt
An empty bottle of kerosene was clenched meanly in his hand
And they said he'd been thinking he was drinking corn liquer
Well I think he made it seem that way
