Bad Habit

To fall into divide is all we know
If the tide was not so high we wouldn't choke
I mistook the fraying ends for solemn tones
But nothing ends at all
Inside my head's the only wall

Because I have a bad habit of it
Taking my foot and putting it where my mouth is
I never had what I wanted to give
Maybe the past is always taken to clear out some room
The pain is on loop
I can't keep coming undone.

To grow and climb the vine is all we found
That helped us get our feet off of the ground
I can twist and I can turn to fall asleep
But my dreams have twisted off
I can't turn my thoughts at all

Because I have a bad habit of it
Taking my heart and putting it where my sleeve is
I never had what I wanted to give
Maybe the past is always taken to clear out some room
The pain is on loop
I can't keep coming undone.

How can I find my peace
See the ghost let it leave
How can I open my eyes
See the dust, let it rise

Because I have a bad habit of it
Taking my mind and putting it where the gutter is
