HCM POEM

Do you see this skin
Do you see this melanin
My dark skin so captivating
Capturing every ray of sunshine
Do you see this

What do you see
Do you see my pain
Do you see my struggle
Do you see the joke
Do you see this

I grew up with a negro spirit
Listening to negro spirituals
Painting my skin a color you cant see
Who wants to be white or black when you can be invisible

Who wants to fight a losing battle
Counting all my wins as a miscalculation
Because we should've lost that fight

Imagine hiding all my insecurities
But you cant hide the wallpaper
God has given your screensaver
Imagine realizing Tall Dark and Handsome
Meant not that dark

Do you see this skin
Do you see this melanin
Do you see this

Imagine being part f a culture that connects us all
Everyone creates reboots of the black man
That always flops in the box office
I'm not only black and proud
I'm black and happy as ever
My High Concentrated Melanin is my given right
Gifted with chocolate potions mixed in the mist of the night

Do you see this skin
Do you see this melanin
Do you see this
Have you heard my name
Superblack

My HCM makes the world go round
I am best friends with the sun
We have a handshake you cant do without sunscreen
Green makes yo eyes pop
But black goes good with everything baby

Do you see this skin
Take a look at this melanin
I'm tall this dark and handsome
Do you see this
Have you heard my name

1 2 3
Be yourself and let go
You're the only one in your way
Be yourself and let go
The day for you to blossoms today
