Willow Tree

Clyde had a hammer and a half wrecked heart
When he left Alabama in an old Skylark
He lost Jenny near the river up in Tennessee
So he nailed her picture to the willow tree

And he can't remember no he can't recall
Said he must've stumbled
Must've took a fall
When he woke up Jenny was gone
And the willow tree weeps on

He prayed and prayed she'd be found alive
How did she get lost, won't you tell us Clyde
Yeah the lawman pressed him for a guilty plea

Clyde took his life back in '69
A year later came a van with a big peace sign
California plates filled with hippies wearin' beads

The whole town grieved cause Clyde was gone
