Arm's Length

Although the flaws are slight, they start to multiply
Until kind sentiment turns to ressentiment
Then you'll know how cold a queen of ice and snow
Can burn when her heart turns back to salt and stone
So do you love me less? Gets an emphatic yes
Your image fades to haze as my eyes start to glaze
And what remains of you, ten other men pass through
As they unlock this box - you know I've gotta bone!
Himbos come and go like mayflies in their summer coats
Rip the wings off, no one cares, another one will show
We're a moth and flame that you can't hope to tame
Keep your feelings secret and this way I'll keep you

Arm's length, in the end, only friends
We were dead in the water, ah-ah

You hypergamous ho - this is an inside joke
Has my place been erased in your meat marketplace?
Though my plans have died I still have my pride
You never interfaced with my wicked face
Cruelty twice repaid, I'll bang the cleaning maid
I'm a revolving door, I always ask for more
You'll be someone I knew, I'll have somebody new
So it's fine you won't take the leap of faith
My exes concur that I'm a lousy cur
If you thought you'd think differently, I'd think that's absurd
Himbos come and go, but we're Just Friends foremost
Feelings are my weakness, and this way I'll keep you

Arm's length, in the end, only friends
Down with love, for forever, ah-ah

It's hard to write a monologue about this sort of thing without seeming
Either sentimental or bitter. Both emotions lack the correct taste of
Cerebral dryness that typifies modern indie rock, and in any case, bitterness
About a love lost only tastes good to the writer. The breakdown of a failed
Prelationship requires a journalistic touch if you don't want to end up in the
Hobo Johnson Hole

Arm's length, in the end, only friends
Only friends for forever, ah-ah

I wasn't sure if this was a good idea. Am I a good enough writer to convey the
Situation without sounding like an incel? Acknowledging my faults in the studied
Manner of a man who doesn't feel completely able to change them? Is this even a
Good idea when you've just stumbled into a relationship with a very nice boy whose
Smile you want to protect? Well, duh, it's art, and you've got to suffer for that
Sort of thing. I'll write a song about him to correct the situation. Brilliant

Arm's length, in the end, only friends
Down with love, for forever, ah-ah

I found somebody new, now you're someone I knew
Affect a distant style like tigers in the wild
You felt some happiness, and I felt heaven-blessed
But clearly what was cleaved should be re-cleaved
You know I'm happy here, I've got somebody dear
And I don't want to toss the life for which I've fought
But you were my best friend, I'll ask to this end
If we're at arm's length, why did you have to leave?
