My Plea

Mother, hear my plea, I don't know how to guide them safely
Onto higher ground, where under cloudless skies they might run free

Let your feet resound upon this ground of hardened blood and tears
Let us hear the sound of footfalls marching forward through the years

Mother tell me how to stop the thundering steps of those who run
Faster than the children with their faces upturned to the sun

Always turn to look behind to see the place from whence you spring
Train your eyes upon your past before you try to spread your wings

Mother how can I make sure their wings stretch long enough to fly
How to calm my fears of all the dangers lurking in the sky

Let your feet resound and turn your gaze to watch their faltering rise
Stand upon the ground and fan the winds to help them reach the skies
